OBC Summer Camp 2024/ Day 2
Don’t Lose Focus
After a 7:00 bus drop off to get the air checked and hopefully fixed on one of the buses, we made a Walmart stop to pick up essentials like water (for me an Alani Nu), and a few other things. Made it back in time to eat a few sausage patties and biscuits before morning worship. Best breakfast view I have had in a while.
Morning Worship/Focus on Jesus
Clark started us off with a nice stretch. Then he dove right into talking about keeping our focus on Jesus. Using Peter walking on water as a great example. He ended with a challenge of, “What are YOU doing with your faith?” This song, by Helen H. Lemmel says is so well.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in his wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of his glory and grace
Through this hymn we hear the echo of Hebrews 12:2:  “fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Team Building: Flip a Tarp/ Trust Fall/ Human Knot
Flip a Tarp all started as just fun and laughs, then got serious and life lessons were learned. Conversations were held on how to work as a team to accomplish things. The boys did an exceptional job in the flip a tarp. However, it took them quite a while as they had to learn to listen, accept others’ opinions and realize there was more than just one way to do something. It was exciting to listen to them talk and work things out as a group.
The Trust Fall was completed by everyone! It was not only about learning to trust others, but also how to be someone that people can trust.
Taking a break before Lunch
It is interesting to watch students gravitate to one area or the other. Everyone has unique interests
Another GREAT Lunch
With a choice of chicken caesar or club wraps, the Rogers knocked it out of the park again with lunch. Service with a smile, extra salad, chips, and my wrap with NO cheese were all the bonuses. Some finished up with a game of cards before heading to free time.
Beach/Pool/Ball Court
A large group wen to the beach to enjoy the sun, sand and waves. Ok, maybe not so much the sand. Getting to the beach went much faster and easier than getting back from the beach. We had adults in the water around our group of students watching for any reasons (riptide/sharks) to get out quickly.
Reapplications of sunscreen were advised, supervised, and happened. Yet we still finished the day with many red faces, shoulders, and a few overall uncomfortable people.
Afternoon Cool Down at the Camp Store
When we heard there was ice cream at the camp store there was a dash (or stampede) to see who could get there first. $5.00 got you 2 scoops. The air conditioning was free. We enjoyed both. They also had super cute t-shirts that several kiddos and adults purchased.
Equal opportunity hair tinsel application. Apparently, it is a 3 girl job! Beautiful results. She was all tinseled up.
Battle at the Beach
Ultimate frisbee and volleyball teams battled it out this afternoon. I think the Red Team came out on top. The referee in the beach chair and enthusiastic coaches were just extra.
Pasta for Dinner
Choices of Chicken Alfredo, Spaghetti, and Shrimp Alfredo with a side of garlic bread and salad was dinner. Most chose to eat in the cooler worship area. Cooler is a subjective adjective here. What are you comparing it to?
Evening Worship/What is a Biblical World View?
Dr. Steve brought the Word again tonight. Proverbs 3:5-8 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes;
fear the Lord and shun evil. 8 This will bring health to your body
and nourishment to your bones.“
The worship that the students are experiencing through songs and God’s word is indescribable. You have to experience it, not see it through pictures. I can’t even imagine what it will be like in Heaven worshiping our Lord all together.
Small Group Time
After evening worship, the boys and girls separated into small group time with their leaders for 45 minutes of reflection and sharing. Gang/hang time from 9:30 to lights out at 11:00. There were a lot of tired sunburned kiddos from today’s fun filled activities. Resting up for another full day tomorrow of OBC SUMMER CAMP !
