Experiencing Community Through Jesus in Bomet, Africa

The “People”

Pastor John introduced the team to our translators on our first morning of outreach. We divided into groups of 2 with one translator per group. Travis and I were with Pastor Jackson all week. He quickly learned to interpret all our funny weird phrases and we became great friends.

Highly Welcome

Each home/group of people that we met began by telling us we were Highly Welcome. So many smiles and beautiful people. We laughed together, prayed together, worshiped through dance together. So many stories behind each of these pictures and faces. After we shared at a house, there was usually someone from the house that joined our group and lead us to the next house. By the end of the morning we were quite a large group.

The Many “Places” We Worshiped Together

Each day as we shared and walked through villages, we invited people to meet us back at a central location of the village for a crusade. At the crusade, someone from the group would share about Jesus and how the Lord changed their lives.

Balek Baptist Church

Pastor Jackson took us to the church where he is the pastor. Travis and I were blessed to be able to pray over him and for his congregation.

Worshipping together at Church

We were so blessed to be part of worship on Sunday! Brother Ray preached to a powerful gathering where the congregations of four churches joined together. Many praise teams from each church filled the room, and the spirit was alive with joy and unity. People had been dancing and singing for hours before the sermon even began. The energy, the praise, and the presence of God were so tangible—it was a truly unforgettable experience!

Jesus Film… in Swahili

One unforgettable night our team showed the Jesus Film in Swahili, and it was nothing short of amazing. We set up the film on a simple sheet, and before the night was over, the church was absolutely packed. At first, we weren’t sure if we’d be able to get the sound system working, but thankfully, it all came together. Watching people connect with the story of Jesus in their own language was so moving, and you could feel the impact it had on everyone. It was a powerful reminder of how God can work through even the simplest setups!

Sharing, Sharing, Sharing

We had the incredible opportunity to share Jesus everywhere—in the tea fields, in homes, in yards, on the streets—with adults and children alike. Whether praying with believers or those still seeking, we felt a deep sense of connection and purpose in every moment. And while we set out to be a blessing, it was us who were truly blessed and forever changed by the experience. Each encounter left a lasting impression on our hearts, showing us the beauty of faith shared across all kinds of spaces and lives.

Tried and True Fun Toys

These children entertained themselves with homemade toys, played together, and were outside (not inside playing games) the whole time we were visiting this area. We often make the mistake in thinking that more is better. This is proof of the opposite.

Well…. the last picture is a machete. We won’t count that as a toy.

Friends Forever

Those friendships built on shared faith can be some of the most enduring and meaningful. It’s beautiful how friendships in Christ can create lifelong bonds, keeping loved ones close in spirit even when they’re far away.

Such a Beautiful Place

As we say goodbye, I reflect on the views, the people, and the fellowship we all shared. It was truly beautiful. I pray that one day God gives me the opportunity to return and be blessed again by such loving people in Bomet, Africa. Thank you for the memories and the love; they will stay in my heart forever. Until we meet again!
