More Digging!! Eternal Treasures!!
Our day started back at City View Baptist church for Day 2 of Backyard Bible Club. Registration tables were setup, cones placed for safety, and pictures taken because God blessed us with another beautiful morning!
And the COFFEE was prepared and in abundance…Praise the Lord!
Food Prepping!
Lunch prep started immediately everyday. Doug, Kalah and Kennedy were the hardest working people on the trip (except for Brother Brad of course) getting our fabulous meals ready at the exact time they were needed. They had take home meals prepared everyday for every child. The families expressed their gratitude for the effort and meals provided.
Resident Archeologists!?
Day 2 allowed the kids to dig into God’s word and see that Jesus was betrayed and rejected. (Psalm 41:9; Isaiah 53:3,7; John 13; 18:1-19:16)
Jesus knew what would happen and still followed God’s plan. He took our punishment by choice because HE LOVES US!
Bible Study Time!
Our youth and college students continued to teach God’s word and answer questions the kids had.
Questions like: How can Jesus be God? Are angels real? Did Jesus really die and come back from the dead? Do I have to be baptized? How long do I have to stay under the water?
And of course: Is it time to eat yet? Can I go to the bathroom? He called me ____. Is it time for games?
Our students leaders were AMAZING and patient as you can tell from the looks on their faces. 🙁 🙂 😐
Crafts!
Kids of all ages enjoyed the crafts that tied into the bible story each day. Brother Brad and/or Doug’s likeness is clearly seen in the first image.
Music & ‘Not’ Dancing!
Who doesn’t love to sing??? Kaylee was warming up for her singing part in the Passion Play…which she rocked! So glad to see so many youth leaders growing in their faith, stepping out and stepping up for Jesus!
Lunch Wraps or Brad’s Burritos!?
Lunch was always a time to watch the kids interact and talk about what they had been doing that morning. I think Brad got fired from making wraps, but that is another story for another day. Something to do with throwing food and making wraps into monster burritos…
Prayer Walking!
As the afternoon began, Travis and I had the opportunity to prayer walk a few blocks around the church. So much change and turnover in this community that has impacted City View Church. God knows every need and it was a blessing to have conversations with people and pray over homes as we walked by. The folks we met were very friendly and very welcoming, even though many had that “Gaudy Orange” flying.
Yes, Mr. Fred – 101 & Weed Eating!
Travis and I met Mr. Fred as we were walking. He will be 102 on May 4th. He invited us (really didn’t give us a choice) to sit on his porch front and talk a while. It was GREAT. He has sooooo much knowledge and information to share. We discovered that his father was actually the Pastor of City View when Mr. Fred was 13 years old.
One of Travis’s favorite comments was when he told us his GRAND-daughter lived with him for a short time recently, but she couldn’t keep up and had to move out!
We stayed and talked for about an hour. As soon as Travis asked to pray with him, he jerked his hat off his head and grabbed Travis’s hand. I can’t begin to tell you all this visit meant to me.
Debrief & More Fun!
Four hours of bowling, rope climbing, arcade playing, and just random goofing off at Main Event Entertainment had everyone exhausted by the end of the night. Our youth were very encouraging for the youth from City View Church, which was one of the goals of the trip.
A lesson for all…It is always encouraging to be able to bless and encourage others and we at OBC are definitely blessed. We should always be ready to share our blessings and the SOURCE of those blessings- Jesus Christ!
Our young (and old) folks definitely tried to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus during the week.
Matthew 25:40: And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,[f] you did it to me.’
Bowling for ‘Fun’!?
Kaylee wouldn’t bowl without her own personal ball. But she did give lessons to Brooke. Not sure we were really at our most motivated selves during the bowling, but it sure was fun to just laugh and be goofy, especially since ‘tired’ had kicked in at this point.
Ropes & Ropes & Ropes!
This was my first time to do a rope walk. It was more fun than I expected. Just didn’t look down too often. The young’uns had a blast!
Food & Games!
I didn’t find out until later that Travis cheated and took off his 3D glasses on out rollercoaster ride…Yes he did, even after cheating and watching a three year old go before me having a blast! TS
Yep – we DONE!!
Most everyone wanted to lay down. Kennedy just went ahead and did. We arrived back at our hotel about 9:15 to rest up, pack and get ready for the last day of our trip.
