Giving “Thanks” in Corinth

Together Time with the family is the best time of all. Never take it for granted and get ALL the pictures you can!! At least that is what I like to do. We cram so much into a short period of time together that it starts to run together in my head. Pictures help me remember and revisit everything.

Thankful for Safe Travel

Thankful for Great Indian Food

Jake and Emerald flew into Memphis on Saturday, November 19th. We left the airport around 5:30 pm and headed to the Curry Bowl for dinner. Indian food is always a must when in Memphis for us. I was surprised when Jake ordered his heat level hot, AND THEN ATE IT!!! He was always the one who didn’t like really spicy food in Malaysia. We each ordered an entree and then got a mixed vegetable pakora as an appetizer. I had the honey chili cauliflower. Travis had chicken tikka masala. Jake had butter chicken and Emerald had noodles. We all shared our meals plus garlic naan and had the leftovers to take home.

Thankful we live in a country that allows us to worship and praise God!

Sunday was a great family day of worship at Oakland Baptist Church for us. Jake shook quite a few hands, like the politician that he is (Just Kidding Jake). More people remember him than he remembers. It is always funny when after a 5 minute conversation with someone he turns and asks me, “Now what was their name?” Gracie decided to go with us. She is my borrowed great niece to spoil and I do it so well.

Thankful for Grandparents

After church we picked up some chicken from Jack’s and headed to Maw Mary and Papaw Neal’s house to visit. Emerald and Gracie were excited to go see his chickens. Papaw Neal’s dogs are a little big for Gracie so she VERY EASILY talked Travis into carrying her. The weather was great and we got to enjoy some outside time together.

Thankful For My Helper

“Let’s cook!” Gracie says. Little does she know that I am not the best cook. However, I gave it my best and pulled out the Oakland Baptist Cookbook. Tea Cakes for the win. Where was all this patience I now have when my kids were little? She insisted that we wear aprons and I insisted that she keep washing her hands. I even had tins left over, from my days of working at Kirklands, that we were able store them in. Travis is my tester and he was impressed with our tea cakes. SUCCESS!!!!

Thankful for Abe’s Grill

Jake and Emerald wanted to do their annual trip to Abe’s Grill for breakfast. https://www.facebook.com/AbesGrill

It was great as usual. I tried to take photos for those who have never been there before. It is a very small and very busy building, but worth the trip for the food and friendliness. Gracie was so cute when she looked at me and said, “This place is messy.” I cracked up. Some things you cannot explain to a 4 year old.

Thankful for SOCO

I think Jake and Emerald visited SOCO grind every day that they were with us. https://www.facebook.com/corinthcoffeeshop

I don’t drink coffee but I can usually enjoy the Filthy Animal which is a white chocolate chai tea. Gracie enjoyed going upstairs and talking to family below on the first floor. Great place to sit with friends and family and just chat.

Thankful for My Fun Loving Man

Gracie might have Travis wrapped around her finger just a little…you think??? I gave her an empty felt bag to carry as a purse, but I was not the one who gave her money to shop. And shop she did.

We headed out to just walk a bit. When we heard a train coming, Gracie and I took off running to see it. Well, she took of running and I had to hobble along behind her. It was the shortest train ever!! My ‘run’ took longer than the passing of the train.

Thankful for Animals (Sometimes)

Emerald visited the horses, as per tradition when she visited. After returning from seeing the horses, they loaded up in the jeep to herd cattle that had gotten out and were wandering around on the Golf Course. You just can’t make up some the adventures we have. It’s no wonder Gracie likes to come over.

Thankful for Food.. AGAIN

Travis took the crew to Earl’s Grill for dinner. It was fabulous as usual. Check out the blog post I did on Earl’s Grill. https://mtnestrs.com/2022/02/fun-at-earls/

The trick is to go early enough to beat the crowd. Did that comment just make me sound old? We are old honey. Me older than you. (Travis)

Thankful Josh did NOT get his cooking skills from me

Josh has spoiled me for eating steaks in restaurants. I have never had one in a restaurant that is equal to his, so I usually don’t even try anymore. These tasted FABULOUS. After eating, we exchanged gifts. We decided Travis is a look alike for Bill Murray in Caddyshack. (But not act alike. Travis)

Thankful for Fun Photos with Family

Some people just have ‘THE POSE.’ Or maybe we are just goofy like that.

Thankful I survived the One Chip Challenge

I don’t think I have ever turned down a hot sauce challenge of Josh’s. This one was actually not the worst we have ever completed. We did only eat half a chip each and maybe that was why? He did not show me all the tik-tok videos of people doing this UNTIL we were finished.

I have a video if anyone is interested. I am not posting because he did let a few @#%$% slip out after we put them in our mouths. I think we handled it equally well, if that is even possible. No yelling or running or crazy stuff like I saw online. No medical personnel had to be called. I will admit that I drooled on my sweater but his eyes watered and mine did not.

Thankful for living in the USA

Just a little Second Amendment target practice with homemade targets and family! Does it get more Southern than this?

Thankful for Time with FAMILY

Thankful for the ones who were able to gather for Thanksgiving to eat and fellowship. Love to look back on all who were able to be there and how we all have “matured” over the years…and Jet!

Thankful for Sisterly Love

Yes, it usually takes this many pictures before everyone agrees that we have one acceptable picture. The great thing about using my phone is that I have them all to post. The only thing better would be to record the dialogue between Tonya and Keri. Keri even made us change photographers. This was the year for the glasses. None of us can read anymore without them.

Thankful for the FELLOWSHIP

The Grands ate around the table and the rest just sort of scattered. It was so nice outside that we spent time on the back porch. Temps were in the high 60’s – low 70’s. Typical crazy Mississippi weather for Thanksgiving.

Thankful for Names on Stockings

I bought these stocking years ago. Enough were purchased for all my guys and their wives to have one as well. We have laughed with them over the years about the names being put on the stockings. Everyone always got a stocking, but you don’t get a name on it until you get married.

Thankful for Cheap Hobbies

Give us a semi-dry day with no wind and we are always good for a fire. Over the years we have had super large fires, really small fires, and fires that turned into day long projects. Throw in a little golf with the nephew, visit with the club house cat and what more could you ask for?

I even managed to alarm the local volunteer fire folks with a little bitty leaf fire in the ditch across the road…We will keep that one a secret.

Thankful for a GREAT Visit

I am thankful that Travis usually drives. It was an early start to head back to the airport in Memphis. And of course we had to stop at Smoothie King on the way. Thankful for those last few minutes we got to spend together before Jake and Emerald headed back to DC / Virginia.
