Blue Canoe
The Blue Canoe is located in Tupelo, MS. They describe themselves as a laid back, funky joint and Tupelo’s home for original live music. The atmosphere takes its patrons miles away while the staff makes them feel right at home. They have a top 10 burger in the state and 3-time winner of the Best Dessert in MS from Mississippi Magazine.
Travis and I found ourselves in Tupelo one evening looking for a place to eat dinner. We had mentioned eating at the Blue Canoe several times but never had the opportunity until today. It will definitely not be our last trip for sure. As advertised on the awning, it is “Free Local Color.”
Since we arrived at 5:00 p.m. on a weeknight, the crowd level was not bad. We were quickly seated and provided menus. I was so busy looking around at the cool decor that our waitress had to come back multiple times before I could decide on what to order.
Being the burger lover that I am, I went with the Smash Burger. I added an egg and jalapenos as usual. Since I took the cheese off, it left the burger needing something so the waitress suggested that I add the horseradish type sauce that was on the table. It was so good, I ate it on my burger and fries. Yep, Travis helped me finish mine!!!

Travis chose the shrimp tacos and he was not disappointed. The roasted Mexican corn may have been his favorite though. He did not offer me a bite of his which is unusual so I can’t give my opinion on it.

Of course, we finished up our meal with Connie’s Blueberry Doughnut Bread Pudding. It was recommended by several people and did not disappoint. Since our meal was so large, we shared the dessert, and it was just the right amount.

By the time we left, the building had filled up nicely with people from all walks of life. There were people from the areas of medical, business, educators, and young adults spread out all over the place having fun. We left before the live music started. We are MTNESTERS, but have an early bedtime since we get up so early, specially with a full stomach of great food. I refuse to believe it, but maybe we are just are getting older.
Cheap but Cool Decorating Technique
They have an outside seating area for summer months. We did not walk out back to check that out, but that will be on my list for the next time we eat here. I also plan to try out the chicken and waffles.
