Fun afternoon wandering in Muscle Shoals, AL

We headed out of town at about 12:00 this afternoon to go EAST. That is kind of a joke between us since the compass in our car is broken and we have been headed EAST for the last 8 years. But we really did go East today about 50 miles to get to Slim Chickens. This restaurant is a chain that opened in Muscles Shoals in January 2022. We don’t usually go to chain restaurants but after reading the reviews and comments, we decided to check it out. We considered Champy’s Famous Fried Chicken but decided that would have to wait for another day. When we arrived and walked in the door, we were greeted by a line of about 4 other groups. The order counter is directly in front you when you walk in the door so not sure what would happen if it was a long line and you had to wait outside in the rain or cold? The line moved pretty quickly, and I was so undecided about what I wanted.

Just a few Sauces ……………..And Fried Pickle Chips

There was so many choices to choose from. They offer 17 different house sauces for your chicken. Since I was undecided on wings or strips, I got both in the 3 and 3 meal. I ordered my wings in Sriracha Garlic and my tenders in Sweet Red Chili. Both turned out tasty. Travis ordered the Six Wing Meal in Slim Sauce. He enjoyed his as well. I LOVE fried pickle chips because we live in the south, and everything is good if you fry it RIGHT?

I loved the drink station because I love to mix flavors together. Travis says it is weird but….. The decor was nice and even though there were quite a few people there, it didn’t feel too crowded. Of course, we chose to sit outside since it was such a beautiful day. If this were closer to home, I would probably eat here again. Not sure I will drive an hour when there are so many other new places to try.

After leaving Slim Chickens we started wandering Muscle Shoals and Florence. We shopped/looked at Austin Shoe Stores. This week I got to buy a pair of tennis shoes. YEAH ME!!! We ended up in the downtown area just walking around. I love to see the old building and read about their history. We also walked by a jewelry shop. I went in to see if how they recommended storing earrings, since I seem to have a few too many pairs. We were created by the store’s very own cat resident. The owner shared with us how the cat wandered in one day about 5 years ago when the door opened. He was a stray that has been there ever since. He is a unique cat with a very distinguishable color. I don’t remember all the details of the story, but you can go by and visit with him.
